Our Bureau of Investigation has learned that people recruited by the JeContribue platform can receive a salary equivalent to what they received before retiring.

Until last May they were also entitled to an attendance bonus of up to $ 1,800 per month. They received this bonus ranging from $ 15 to $ 90 per day after just a day or two half days of work per week.

Other amounts may also apply, such as evening premiums.

“In fact, it is possible for some vaccinators to earn up to $ 500 per shift, including bonuses,” said Catherine Domingue, director of media relations for the Monteregie East Integrated Center of Health and Social Services (CISSS).

A retired official recruited on the government platform was stunned when told how much salary he would receive.

“I was told that the compensation could range from under $ 50,000 to over $ 100,000 for exactly the same liability. How to justify this variability and above all how to justify a fee of 100,000 dollars for injecting a vaccine? “Asks the one who agreed to speak only on condition of anonymity.

As part of the vaccination campaign, Quebec has expanded the types of workers allowed to administer doses. In particular, veterinarians, dentists or pharmacists have been authorized. After two short training sessions, I am able to perform injections.

For employees of the health network, the salary is applied according to the salary scale of the original job. Therefore, a clinical nurse or biochemist can earn between $ 27.08 and $ 47.98 before applicable bonuses and perks (vacation, vacation, or sickness).

To date, health care institutions have paid tens of millions of dollars in compensation. Therefore, the bill exceeds $ 30 million in Quebec alone.

“The CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale has used more than 1,000 vaccinators, in at least 20 vaccination sites, a dozen mobile clinics, 36 CHSLDs, 157 RPAs, 169 schools, as well as various public places”, explains the spokesperson, Annie Ouellet .

More than 21 million doses have been administered in Quebec since the vaccination campaign began in December 2020.

Two classes of workers

The government has created two classes of workers by choosing to recruit vaccination personnel directly from the population.

“The people who negotiated the terms on the sideit is unacceptable ”, complains the president of the provincial council for social affairs of the CUPE, Maxime Ste-Marie.

The latter, which represents the more than 30 thousand employees of the health network, denounces the management by ministerial order decreed by the government.

The conditions for workers in screening and vaccination centers have been established by ministerial decision in the context of the health emergency.

Maxime Ste-Marie acknowledges the essential contribution of these workers and encourages vaccination, but wonders why the health emergency remains in effect online, two and a half years after the pandemic began.

“We need everyone, but many are in an unknown state. Their situation must be regularized, especially if they are competent people to remain in office, ”she said.

According to him, the government needs to do more to fill the thousands of vacant posts on the net.

Unprecedented crisis

At the CIUSSS du Center-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, it was reported that he has paid more than $ 22.7 million in compensation since the start of the vaccination campaign. In total, the facility delivered more than 750,000 doses, most notably at the Palais des Congrès site in Montreal.

“For an unprecedented health crisis, there has been an unprecedented response. It was an incredible operation, ”recalls Danny Raymond, communications consultant.

While acknowledging that some workers can earn more than $ 500 per day, it indicates that the average wage is around $ 40 per hour.

The Ministry of Health reports that the CISSS manage the remuneration.

“The salary of these people is determined by their degree level and the years of professional experience gained in their original job title,” Marie-Hélène Émond indicates by email.
